NGS Commemoratives
NGS Members Enjoy Collecting Convention Commemoratives The National Graniteware Society had its first convention in 1987. The members who attended that first convention received the first Convention Commemoratives. A special commemorative is issued for each convention. These highly collectible items are available only to NGS members who are registered for, and attend, the convention. Each year since 1987 convention attendees have received a new addition for their Convention Commemorative Collection.

To qualify for a convention commemorative you must have your membership dues paid up to date, have your registration for the convention paid by July 1st, and pick it up in person at the convention. Members who do not attend the convention are not eligible to receive a commemorative.

The reason non-convention participants are not allowed to buy commemoratives is a simple one. The commemorative is considered as a special remembrance for those in attendance. To loosen the rules regarding commemorative distribution would serve to lesson its value to those who do attend. Those registered for the convention by July 1st are guaranteed a commemorative at the convention. Those registering after that date will receive a commemorative on a first come, first served basis, as long as the supply lasts.

Registered convention goers may buy additional commemoratives and "special commemoratives" at the NGS Convention Auction on Saturday. Special commemoratives usually considered more valuable. They vary from normal commemoratives because the color, mottling, size, or swirl has been changes to make them unique. Proceeds from the sale of these commemoratives and "specials" help NGS fund the annual convention.
