Membership and convention policies

This is just a quick review of membership and convention policies for the NGS. Membership dues are $25.00 per family at one address. We do not send out multiple copies to a different address just because a family member is not living at the same address - this would be considered a separate membership and subject to an additional membership fee.

The NGS membership year is a fiscal year starting the first of October and running to the end of September of the following year. We have tired to highlight the need to renew memberships on the front of the newsletter with an "R" in front of your name. We will try something more eye-catching next year. Most of our membership renews at the convention for the next year and that probably causes some confusion.

The convention registration is payable before July 1 (a postmark or a phone call is what we go by), without penalty. After that date we charge an additional $25.00 for the handling of the registration paperwork that has to be done separately and quickly. We do not waive the extra fee because you decide to just show up at the last minute. The only time we have ever waived the late fee is when Iowa City and Cedar Rapids were flooded in 2008 and we experienced problems receiving the mail in a timely manner. With your registration you will be given a name tag that must be worn to all NGS convention functions. You will be asked to leave a function if you are not wearing your name tag. The Thursday auction, which is a private function, is open to the public as are all room sales. The registration fee pays basically for the meals at the hotel and the commemorative for that year.
